Active learning approaches have been shown to enhance knowledge transfer and increase the effectiveness of adult education by emphasizing critical thinking, analytical skills, and hands-on learning. In 2016, PRIM&R convened two Train-the-Trainers Institutes (TTIs) for IACUC leaders and educators to learn how active learning pedagogy can enhance the effectiveness of their IACUC training programs. The TTIs were developed and hosted as part of the Interagency Collaborative Animal Research Education (ICARE) Project.
